Can less invasive tweakments really rival liposuction as the gold standard for significant fat reduction? From our ‘love handles’ to double chins, we’ve been investigating one minimally-invasive innovation called AirSculpt, which could be on track to steal the fat-busting crown.
Using its signature ‘plucking’ technique, Elite Body Sculpture’s exciting technology promises dramatic fat-reducing results for chins, stomachs, bums, and arms, with a much less invasive approach than full surgery. Read on for everything you need to know. Plus, check out the before-and-after photos that demonstrate the impressive fat-busting results for yourself.
How does AirSculpt work?
What sets AirSculpt apart from other fat-removal processes is its balance between significant fat reduction and the downtime-reducing nature of that process. Designed to remove unwanted fat with real precision, AirSculpt uses a patented ‘spinning’ cannula that extracts fat cells selectively, minimising trauma to the surrounding tissues. This approach results in less bruising and swelling (although there are still a couple of days of downtime), making it an increasingly popular choice for those seeking fat reduction without a lengthy recovery process.
How does it compare to liposuction?
While liposuction has long been considered the gold standard for excess fat removal, it isn’t without its drawbacks. In particular, it requires general anaesthesia, and its use of a hollow suction tube inserted under the skin can cause large scarring and a long recovery time.
AirSculpt’s unique technique aims to circumvent those issues. While AirSculpt is more invasive than fat-reducing laser or ultrasound treatments (to provide more significant and permanent results), it doesn’t require stitches, scalpels, or general anaesthetic. Instead, it plucks out fat cell by cell through an opening no larger than a pencil lead. It is also a relatively quick process (lasting from around half an hour); is conducted while you are awake and comfortable enough to listen to music or chat; and it results in healed ‘chicken pox-like’ scars that are much less noticeable.
What is the downtime like with AirSculpt?
In the first 48 hours, you are likely to experience some soreness, a little bleeding, and/or bruising in the treated area, and you’ll need to wear a compression garment to maximise your results. But you can return to light activities after only a couple of days – which is a lot quicker than liposuction.
What results can you achieve?
AirSculpt can remove up to an impressive five litres of excess fat within a single session. Plus, it sculpts and tightens your body at the same time, and your results are permanent, as long as you keep up a healthy lifestyle to avoid fat gain in untreated areas. The removed fat can even be transferred to other areas of your body, such as your breasts or bottom, for complete body sculpting in a single procedure.
AirSculpt results: before and afters
If you’re curious about AirSculpt, the proof is in the pictures. Here are some of our favourite before-and-after transformations where AirSculpt was used to sculpt the chin, stomach, legs, and arms:
The Chin
The chin is one of the most requested areas for AirSculpt. It can help with double chins and sculpting your jawline, while reducing the risk of skin sagging post-procedure, which can happen with traditional liposuction.
The Tummy
If you are struggling with stubborn fat around your middle (which is especially common for women once we hit perimenopausal and beyond), AirSculpt can help without the need for a full ‘tummy tuck’. It not only helps remove fat but tones and smooths your silhouette too.
The Arms
From ‘bingo wings’ to bulky upper arms, AirSculpt has made many patients feel more confident in their sleeveless tops and dresses by removing excess fat and tightening the skin simultaneously.
The Legs
By working around your inner and outer thighs, AirSculpt can remove stubborn fat around your lower body that is otherwise difficult to shift even with exercise and a healthy diet. It can also lift and sculpt your bum for a sculpted silhouette.
