Most of us tend to focus on our faces when it comes to tweakments – which is no bad thing – but it does mean areas that can really start to show our age, like our hands, can easily get overlooked. Luckily, if your hands are starting to become a little more gaunt or crepey of late, Alice has investigated a trending solution – injectable moisturiser for your hands.
Read on (and watch the video) to see Alice head to Knightsbridge for an appointment with Dr Priya Chadha. Here she discovered how Restylane Skinboosters – dubbed the original skin conditioning injectable treatment – are now not just being used to rejuvenate our faces, but to perfect our hands too…
Injectable moisturiser treatments – which place a really thin layer of fluid hyaluronic acid gel just under the surface of your skin – have become a hugely popular solution for giving your skin back its bounce and glow. They work by replenishing the levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin, which deplete over time.
These treatments aren’t just about boosting hydration though. “Certain hyaluronic acid-based skin boosters, such as Restylane Skinboosters, can improve uneven texture and fine wrinkles as well as hydrating the skin,” explains Dr Chadha. “They do this by stimulating the fibroblasts in your skin to ‘wake your skin up’, improving collagen and elastin production.”
It’s not just faces and necks that can benefit from injectable moisturisers like Restylane Skinboosters – practitioners are seeing great results for wrinkly hands, knees and even backs of elbows too!
“Skinboosters can help with wrinkling and firmness on the hands to improve thin, crepey skin, while also making visible veins a little less prominent,” says Dr Chadha.
In the video below, Dr Chadha first numbs the back of Alice’s hand and then injects using a cannula (which can reduce side effects like bruising). She injected around three to four times in a V shape, before moving up the hand, using the Smart Click technology of the syringe to ensure just the right amount of product is deposited each time.
“My hands are already looking smoother and they are feeling fine, with no bruising,” revealed Alice straight after the injections. “But I’ll wait to see what they look like after the full courses of three Restylane Skinbooster treatments.”
Really, visibly impressive. “From a non-technical point of view, they just look miles better and less bony, as if there has been volume improvement,” says Alice. Dr Chadha concurs: “You have an improvement in your skin quality, the texture and tone of your skin is more even and the fine lines and crepiness are reduced.” And the volume, is that for real? “Yes,” said Dr Chada, “the hyaluronic acid has attracted water, that reduces the fine lines and wrinkles – but it’s not revolumising in the way that a filler would be.”
Pre-treatment Dr Chadha warned: “there’s always a small pinch. The pain can be elevated on the hands as the skin is quite thin, and it can also bleed slightly as there are vessels there.” However, not only is it quite a quick treatment – so the discomfort shouldn’t last for long – Alice actually found the experience perfectly comfortable.
A course of three treatments is recommended, four weeks apart – meaning you will see the best results after three months. Maintenance appointments are available every four-to-six months to ‘top-up’ the effect.
Aftercare is pretty simple. Mainly just avoid massaging the area or any physical activity that uses the hands for 24 hours as they could be a little sore. Let your hands recover for a day and then you can resume everything as normal.
