Always had a love-hate relationship with your nose? Irritated by a drooping tip or bumpy bridge? Thinking about booking in for a nose job? Wait one moment… there’s a non-surgical solution you can try, and it offers zero downtime, and long-lasting, natural-looking results. Intrigued? So were we.
Alice went to see Dr Yusra Al-Mukhtar in her Liverpool-based clinic to discover how she’s using a leading type of dermal filler – Galderma’s Restylane Lyft – for a minimally-invasive ‘nose lift’ (or non-surgical rhinoplasty to give it its proper name).
Watch the video – and read on – to learn exactly how it works, with real patient testimony and a demonstration from Dr Yusra. Plus, find out how you can book in for the quick procedure that can be really quite transformative…
Unlike a surgical nose job that sees cartilage, fat and bone potentially removed, a non-surgical rhinoplasty leaves the tissues as they are and uses minimally-invasive injectable fillers to reshape your nose. That might sound counterintuitive – after all, dermal fillers are known for adding volume – but here’s how it works:
“Physically, I’m not making the nose smaller, but the filler is injected very precisely and by placing it in key strategic areas of the nose, we are changing the way that the light reflects,” says Dr Yusra. “With the correct product placement, technique and product choice you can create an illusion of a smaller, straighter and even shorter nose.”
Dr Yusra is an award-winning aesthetic practitioner and her interest in non-surgical rhinoplasty stems from personal experience. She had surgery for a deviated septum that went wrong, so she knows first-hand how self-conscious your nose can make you.
“I am passionate about getting noses right because I know the impact it has on my patients, not just on their appearance, but on their psychological wellbeing,” explains Dr Yusra. “Therefore the transformation is really a transformation from the outside and inside.”
In the video below, you can watch Dr Yusra showcasing how she achieves a non-surgical rhinoplasty using her “product of choice” Restylane Lyft – which is FDA-approved for use on the nose.
“We have completed a non-surgical rhinoplasty and also chin augmentation, which is a typical profile-balancing procedure to balance out the face,” details Dr Yusra.
“We are using Restylane Lyft – a hyaluronic acid gel – and we inject that into strategic parts of the nose to align it. What we’re doing is masking the hump that the patient doesn’t like, so we inject above and below the bump, and we also inject at the tip. By creating a highlight in the centre, we create the illusion of a slimmer nose and by repositioning the tip, we are shortening the nose and ensuring it doesn’t drop when you smile.”
Not only did the patient feel comfortable throughout the procedure – Restylane Lyft contains local anaesthetic so you mainly feel a small scratch from the needle – you can also tell from the video how thrilled (and surprised) she is with the transformative results.
“It’s so beautiful,” she exclaims. “This is what I would have expected from having a nose job. I feel like that what you’ve done is improve my actual face, as opposed to taking anything away.”
Non-surgical rhinoplasty can be performed on all shapes and sizes of nose (although surgery is probably still the best option for those with nasal breathing difficulties or anyone looking for a dramatically smaller nose). Best of all though, as it’s achieved using dermal filler, the procedure is minimally invasive and offers very little to no downtime, which is certainly not the case with surgical procedures. While the results are not permanent (more on that below), with the right product, it can be surprisingly long-lasting.
Restylane Lyft has been used in over 65 million treatments worldwide, giving it a very high safety profile, and a great clinical record. Unlike other fillers, it is also specifically designed for use in areas of structural deficits such as the nose, giving definition, lift and projection with a precise finish.
“Restylane Lyft is also very long-lasting,” continues Dr Yusra. “The data has shown that it lasts up to 24 months. That’s fantastic for patients because it’s the gift that keeps on giving, and patients don’t have to keep coming back.”
