Plinest Polynucleotides

Written by: Becki Murray

Last Updated: 23 October 2024

Plinest is a leading brand of polynucleotides – a type of biostimulating injectable that aims to boost your skin’s collagen production by ‘waking up’ the fibroblasts. This helps to regenerate and repair your damaged skin cells from within, while also hydrating your complexion.

Designed to target the underlying causes of ageing (rather than simply treating the signs of it), Plinest polynucelotides are particularly suitable for anyone looking for a natural-looking skin boost, tackling both fine lines and dullness in the process without adding volume.  The injectable is commonly used on the face and neck, but can also be applied to other areas of the body, such as the hands or knees under the care of an experienced practitioner.

Made from purified fish sperm (more on that later), the treatment is minimally invasive, with minimal downtime and relatively quick results. The benefits can be seen within a few weeks and, with a course of treatments, the effects can last around six months.

Why We Recommend Plinest

Plinest is an exciting brand of polynucleotides that you can trust to improve skin quality on multiple parts of your face and body. It is especially loved by practitioners for use around the eyes - as it can be injected into the whole area, including the lids - to improve creepiness, tighten skin and soften dark circles.

About Plinest

Why might you be interested in Plinest polynucleotides?

Plinest polynucleotides are an injectable treatment, all about rejuvenating your skin from within. They work by boosting elasticity, hydration, and firmness to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, dullness, and other signs of ageing without freezing muscles or boosting volume. This makes them a great alternative to filler or toxin, especially if your aim is boosting overall skin quality.

How exactly do Plinest polynucleotides work?

As our skin ages, the natural production of key structural proteins, such as collagen, and hydrators, like hyaluronic acid, start to decrease. This makes our complexions drier, duller, and more prone to wrinkling.

Plinest works by making your skin act ‘more like its younger self’, stimulating the fibroblasts that control the production of HA and collagen to boost their quantities. This in turn improves overall skin quality, helping the reduce the appearance of most signs of ageing.

What are they made of?

Like all polynucleotides (which are the building blocks of DNA), Plinest is made from highly purified fragments of fish DNA (specifically high-quality salmon). This is because this is the most biocompatible to humans, allowing them to stimulate fibroblast activity in the skin and trigger that all-important collagen and hyaluronic acid production.

Is Plinest polynucleotides safe?

Not only are Plinest polynuceleotides highly biocompatible with human tissues which means they should not cause adverse reactions in your skin, the salmon DNA used also undergoes an intensive purification process to ensure that it is free from any potential contaminants before use.

That is why the Plinest Eye treatment carries an CE certification – the European Union’s standard for product safety.

What types of polynucleotides do Plinest offer?

Plinest offers a range of targeted polynucleotide treatments. These include:

  • Plinest Classic: For overall skin rejuvenation and targeting signs of ageing such as fine lines and uneven texture.
  • Plinest Fast: Designed for patients who want quicker results, this more concentrated formula is often used in areas like the face and neck.
  • Plinest Eyes: Specifically for the delicate eye area to refresh and smooth. Can be injected in both the under-eye and eyelid areas.
  • Plinest Body: For treating larger areas where the skin is also thicker than the face, such as the arms and knees.

What is the experience like having Plinest polynucleotides?

The treatment is fairly quick and straightforward. The first step is the application of numbing cream to minimise discomfort. Then, when this kicks in you’ll have lots of tiny pin-prick injections, using a needle or cannula, in the target areas.

The whole experience lasts between 30-60 minutes depending on the treatment areas, but it is not a one-and-down tweak. You’ll need three or four sessions spaced two to three weeks apart, to see the best results.

Where can Plinest polynucleotides be used?

Plinest polynucleotides can be used to target various areas of your face, neck and body – basically, any areas where you want to improve skin texture, elasticity, and firmness.

They are especially celebrated though for their ability to tackle crepey skin and dark circles around your eyes – without giving the puffiness of dermal filler. This is because they don’t just ‘fill’, but improve overall skin quality over time.

Are Plinest polynucleotides similar to dermal filler and injectable moisturisers?

While Plinest polynucleotides may seem similar to dermal filler and skin moisturisers as they are all ‘injected’ to improve skin appearance, there are key differences.

Firstly, polynucleotides are comprised of long chains of nucleotides, rather than hyaluronic acid as with many dermal fillers and injectable moisturisers. That means they work to initiate your body’s natural rejuvenation processes, rather than physically adding structure and volume (as with filler); and focusing predominately on topping up hydration (as with most HA-based skinboosters).

Can Plinest be used alongside other tweakments?

Yes – and not only that, they can actually improve the results you can get from other treatments, such as laser. That’s because polynucleotides work to improve your overall skin quality and health, helping it respond better to the effect of other tweaks.

Is Plinest polynucleotides treatment painful?

You may feel a slight stinging sensation as the polynucleotides are injected – a bit like a blood test or other injectables. However, anesthetic cream is used to minimise pain, and any discomfort is not long-lasting.

How quickly can you see results from Plinest polynucleotides?

You do need to be a little patient with polynucleotides, including Plinest. This is because they are biostimulators and require your body’s collagen and hyaluronic acid production to increase before their best results can be seen. However, they do have a cumulative benefit, so with each session, you should be able to see more skin hydration, radiance and smoothing benefits. It’s important to seek with it.

How long do the results last?

After a course of treatments – usually 2 to 4 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart – your results can last up to a year. Maintenance appointments are recommended every six months.

Are there side effects from Plinest polynucleotides?

Around the injection sites, there is a chance that you can get redness, swelling and bruising, but these should resolve themselves within a few days. Otherwise, polynucleotides are generally well-tolerated by the body.

What is the aftercare advice?

As you have had injections that may increase your chance of infection, try to avoid any topical products such as makeup for at least 24 hours, as well as vigourous exercise, saunas and swimming pools for around 48 hours.

At what age can you get Plinest polynucleotides?

Plinest is suitable for anyone looking for a non-volumising solution to signs of ageing, such as uneven texture, dullness and fine lines. It can help reduce the appearance of such concerns, but it is also a particularly great treatment for those looking for a preventive solution (so younger adults), as the injections improve and maintain skin quality.

Who is Plinest polynucleotides not suitable for?

Polynucleotide treatments should be avoided by those with circulatory disorders, ongoing dermatitis, epilepsy, diabetes, active herpes, and autoimmune disease. It’s also not suitable for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

There is some debate about whether those with fish allergies can have the injections too. According to leading practitioners it should actually be fine, but do speak to your doctor before booking your appointment.

Who makes Plinest polynucleotides?

Plinest is manufactured by Mastelli, an Italian pharmaceutical company that has helped pioneer the use of polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine.
